Inspired to rediscover his roots and family history, computer programmer Michael, soon learns that the past is sometimes best left undisturbed: lurking in the history of his bloodline is a twisted killer, Devlin Mallard. A man dispatched from this earth in 1929 at the end of a hangman’s noose.

In the 21st Century, spirits have moved on from Ouija boards and séances. The dead now travel by broadband – hidden in the Bandwidth. They inhabit the chat rooms, plying their trade online, ever hungry for contact with the living.

Now freed from the darkness and roaming cyberspace, this ghost is hell-bent on exacting revenge and unleashing mayhem.

Fighting for his life, and that of his family, Michael joins forces with murder investigator, Detective Sergeant Woods, and rides a roller-coaster of global killings to the final confrontation. He must face his demon and return Devlin Mallard to the darkness.

A Death in the Family (A Euphemia Martins Mystery)

Free on Kindle 22-26 February

“A sparkling and witty crime debut with a female protagonist to challenge Miss Marple.” Lin Anderson, Award winning Scottish crime author

The first book in the Euphemia Martins Murder Mystery series by Caroline Dunford.

In December 1909 the Very Rev Joshia Martins expires in a dish of mutton and onions leaving his family on the brink of destitution. Abandoned by her noble grandfather, Joshia’s daughter, the eighteen year old Euphemia, takes it on herself to provide for her mother and little brother by entering service. She’s young, fit, intelligent, a little naive and assumes the life of a maid won’t be too demanding. However, on her first day at the unhappy home of Lord Stapleford she discovers a murdered body.

Euphemia’s innate sense of justice has her prying where no servant should look and uncovering some of the darker social, political and business secrets of Stapleford family. She is propositioned, locked in cupboards, made to chop mountains of onions, her reputation shredded, accused of murder and frequently put in fear for her life. All Euphemia has to defend herself is her quick wits, sense of humour and the ultimate weapon of all virtuous young women, her scream.

A brilliant combination of epic biblical apocalypse and gritty urban fantasy. – James Brogden

When the archangel Metatron offers his incompetent human assistant Joe, one final chance to cleanse his sullied soul, he jumps at the chance. But with Armageddon looming, Joe had better find out what’s really going on, because, once Lucifer is released, any human will have missed their chance to pick a side.

However, as he prepares to deliver Graham Latimer, Lucifer’s unwilling and confused human host to the angels, Joe discovers that all may not be as it seems. Hell is no longer the realm of eternal torment and Metatron’s actions are not divinely inspired. Pursued by the very angels with whom he has worked for so long, Joe travels with a diverse group of ‘demons’ through what is left of the seven circles in an attempt to keep Graham safe and stop Metatron from fooling the other angels into destroying the world.

Facing his own personal demons, which are far more dangerous than those creatures around him and trying to find the ‘truth’ amongst the varying shades of grey that make up ‘good’ and ‘evil’, Joe has just one chance to make a difference. However any change is going to come at a cost and nobody, demon, angel or human, wants to pay the price.

Author and womag writer Jane Wenham-Jones coined the term ‘writer’s bottom’ to describe the inexorable spread of your bum which occurs when you spend hours at your computer, writing. Unfortunately it’s a hazard of our trade, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Until now, that is! Jane has written an ebook, 100 Ways to Fight the Flab – The Wannabe Guide to a Better Bottom available for just 77p from Amazon. She was kind enough to send me a review copy, and I must say it’s quite brilliant – full of tips which range from the madcap: Keep your crisps in the loft so every time you want a packet you get a workout for your thighs climbing the ladder, to the eminently sensible: Identify your food weakness then find a lower-calorie substitute.
