HarperCollins imprint Fourth Estate has appointed Anna Kelly to the position of commissioning editor. Kelly, who is currently assistant editor at Hamish Hamilton, will take up the role on the 17th March.

Kelly said she is “very excited” to join the company. “Fourth Estate is home to a dazzling group of authors and its publishing is inventive and imaginative – I can’t wait to begin commissioning for such a prestigious and inspiring list and will be looking in particular for outstanding new voices from the UK and Ireland as well as fiction in translation.”

Excitement is “already at fever pitch” for Clive Barker’s forthcoming Hellraiser book, Pan Macmillan publishing director Wayne Brookes has said.

Brookes acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to The Scarlet Gospels in a joint deal with Macmillan imprint St Martin’s Press in the US through Janklow and Nesbit US.

E-book subscription service Oyster has signed up Bloomsbury as its latest publisher.

The US service will now offer more than 1,000 titles published by Bloomsbury in the US, including Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential, Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and Sarah J Maas’ Throne of Glass.

Oyster said: “We’re excited to partner with such an incredible publisher to make these titles available to our readers and make our library better than ever.”

Usborne will launch a South Korean imprint in partnership with Seoul-based publisher BIR next year.
Usborne Korea will launch in autumn with around 40 titles and is Usborne’s first Asian imprint.
“I have long wanted to expand our very successful foreign imprint policy into Asia, where we have been selling a steadily increasing number of rights and co-editions over the years,” said m.d. Peter Usborne. “This venture is not without risk, but I am very excited about it. To celebrate, I am attempting to learn Korean.”

Excitement is building in the national press about a new book which uses a manuscript from the British Library as the basis for claims that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had two children with her.

The Lost Gospel by Simcha Jacobovici and Barrie Wilson will be released on Wednesday (12th November) by Pegasus. A high-profile press conference will be held on the day of the book’s release, when details about the claims in the book will be revealed.

ipg13We are really delighted to be on the shortlist for the PrintOnDemand Worldwide Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year in the Independent Publishers Guild Awards 2013.

We are in great company shortlisted alongside Osprey Group, Quiller Publishing and Witherby Publishing Group. If we win or lose I know we will have a good Awards Night party at the IPG conference on the 7th March.
